Course Description: The Medical Assistant course prepares students to assist physicians by performing functions related to the clinical aspects of a medical office. Instruction includes preparing patients for examination and treatment, routine laboratory procedures, pharmacology, taking and documenting vital signs, technical aspects of phlebotomy, the 12-lead EKG, and the cardiac life cycle.

Course Description: This introductory course teaches the fundamental concepts of information security one will encounter in the cybersecurity field. Course Description: This program prepares students to perform EKGs and includes information on the anatomy and physiology of the heart, medical disease processes, medical terminology, medical ethics, legal aspects of patient contact, electrocardiography, and stress testing. This comprehensive 50-hour EKG Technician Certification Program prepares students to function as EKG Technicians and to take the ASPT – Electrocardiograph (EKG) Technician exam and other National Certification Exams. Additionally, students will practice with EKG equipment and perform hands-on labs including an introduction to the function and proper use of the EKG machine, the normal anatomy of the chest wall for proper lead placement, 12-lead placement, and other clinical practices.

Course Description: This course provides students technical skills necessary to service complex patient personal care and medical assisting issues including the implementation of selected portions of a specific care plan that may include rehabilitation services, bedside care, collection of laboratory specimens, phlebotomy, and EKG’s. Patient Care Technicians work alongside doctors, nurses, medical assistants, and other healthcare providers to oversee and monitor patients. Broward UP Eligibility and Funding

Eligibility: Applicants must be 18 years of age or older for most Broward UP courses. For health care courses, applicants must also have completed a high school diploma or GED. If you have not completed a high school diploma or GED, we can assist you through our Adult Education program.

Funding: Through grant funding, Broward UP offers free courses and workshops to qualifying students who reside in the following zip codes: 33309, 33311, 33313, 33314, 33319, 33023, 33020, 33069, 33064, 33441, and 33065, and those referred by community partners. Certain restrictions apply.

Other internal and external funding opportunities may be available for eligible students outside of these areas. The Career Pathway Navigator team assists students with determining available opportunities.
